Stress is normal, and sometimes even good and necessary. But when it�s not managed well, it can have serious effects on the quality of our life. As a clinically trained psychiatrist, Dr. Gurdeep Singh sees his fair share of clients battling health issues that are intangible � specifically, health of and in the mind.
Dr. Gurdeep shares his experience with a client of his, who is facing problems at work.
�This client of mine works in a private education institute, and met me in a state of severe anxiety. He tells me that he has been overworked for the past two years. His daily routine involves replying to emails at night, leaving the office at 8 or 9 pm daily and even working over the weekend. He�s also constantly in fear of being reprimanded and making errors in work.�
Chronic stress can manifest itself in physical and psychological symptoms.
Once the issue has been identified, Dr. Gurdeep works closely with his client to find a cure. But it�s not as easy as it seems.
�Finding a cure for a psychological ailment like clinical depression or anxiety is not as straightforward as, say, curing a physical ailment. With the latter, you can see the difference that medication brings about, but treating a psychological ailment needs to be seen from different angles, as well as its stressors.�
