    Did you know that there are various types of food that look like your organs? For decades, many people believed that eating food that resembled a certain body part would benefit that particular organ. Well, surprise – there is some truth to this!

    To help you find out more about these foods, we’ve prepared this list for you:

    Carrots & Your Eyes

    Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, which the body utilises to produce vitamin A that helps the eye convert light to signals to the brain, allowing better eyesight in low light. Carrots are also rich in lutein and a 2006 study cited in the Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science journal noted that it helps reduce cataract.

    Walnuts & Your Brain

    Walnuts are full of neuroprotective compounds like vitamin E, folate, melatonin, omega-3 fats, and antioxidants. These are essential for a healthy brain and according to a 2014 study in the Journal of Nutrition, they keep the brain active and improves memory with age.

    Ginger & Your Stomach

    Traditionally used as a natural remedy for motion sickness or nausea, this incredible root also helps with indigestion. According to a 2018 study in the Journal of Food Science and Nutrition, it speeds up the emptying of the stomach, helping with indigestion and stomach discomfort.

    Tomatoes & Your Heart

    Tomatoes are loaded with a substance called lycopene that protects your cells from damage and lowers your levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) as well as your blood pressure. This reduces heart disease. It also contains vitamins B and E that boost heart health.

    Figs & Your Testis

    Figs are a rich source of fibre and vitamins as well as calcium, potassium, manganese, zinc and vitamin B6. These nutrients help in improving male fertility by increasing sperm count and motility.

    A healthy diet typically consists of food from all major groups including lean protein, whole grains, healthful fats, fruits and vegetables. Now that you know which food can benefit your body, it’s time to include them in your weekly grocery run.
